Welcome to my Blog!
Welcome to the blog!
My goal is to provide a one-stop resource for self-published authors wishing to design their own book covers.
The cover, after all, is the first thing a reader sees. It can make or break a sale, possibly millions of them. By crafting the most beautiful, eye-catching book cover possible – one that does credit to your work – you’re painting a bullseye for potential readers and fans. You’re giving them a target. You’re giving them a way to find and connect with you, over and above the competition.
A great cover gives you a head start.
So that’s what this blog is about, and I hope my background in graphic and book cover design is of some use to the growing number of indie authors who wish to go it alone when it comes to creating their own book cover. At this stage, I’m planning to discuss 3 major topics: Book Cover Design, The Self-Publishing Business, and Art & Graphic Design.
Book Cover Design
Tips, Tutorials and Advice on anything to do with book cover design. I’ll be talking about typography, general layout and design principles, image resources, font resources, dimensions and image ratios, plus specific Photoshop techniques you can use to design a great cover. I’ll also throw in a few cover breakdowns and reviews as examples.
The Self-Publishing Business
I’ll talk a bit about the less glamorous (but equally important!) side of self-publishing – the business of being an author. This includes branded author platforms, social media, and more. I’ll also cover statistics, trends & new developments in self-publishing. This will be the ‘finger on the pulse’ part of things.
Art & Graphic Design
This is a catch-all topic for artistic and design principles that have a broader application than book covers alone. I’ll probably wind up sharing a few things that I like – posters, artwork, illustrations – just to showcase great design and push my aesthetic preferences onto the world.
So that’s pretty much it for now! If you’d like to know when I release new content, you can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or Google Plus. If you prefer a more direct method, here’s the RSS Feed for my blog. I look forward to engaging with you!
